Community Links Bromley AGM 2008 - special report

For those of you unable to make the CLB AGM, we have published the following:

Community Links Bromley AGM Tuesday 23rd September 2008

by Eithne Rynne, Director

Community Links held their AGM in Community House on 23rd September and we were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Bromley, Cllr Denise Reddin who formally opened the proceedings. The Mayor also vey kindly chaired the election of Officers to the Trustee Board. Our guest speaker was Sarah Benioff, Deputy Director of the Office of the Third Sector (OTS) who spoke to delegates about the importance of Community Participation and the measures that the OTS has introduced to support and guide the Third sector with this.

As the new Director of Community Links Bromley I was encouraged to see a wide variety of our stakeholders present and pay particular thanks to those member organisations who attended. I was very pleased to have representation also from some of our statutory partners notably Cllr Ellis, Cllr. Arthur, Cllr Mellor and Cllr Fookes and the PCT.

During the Chair’s report delegates learned of the immense work that had taken place throughout the year and the trustees’ role in developing a strategic plan for the organisations to take this work forward. Heartfelt thanks were expressed by Jean Levy to both trustees and staff and to our interim consultant who had supported us throughout the year.

As new Director I was also pleased to share with the meeting some of our successes throughout the year particularly with regard to increased funding and service delivery and some of our plans for the future in taking forward the vision for CLB over the next three years. It is a very challenging but exciting time for Community Links Bromley and we very much look forward to representing and supporting our members throughout the coming year.

Philip Mould as part of his last duties as Treasurer updated members on our financial situation and presented the Annual Accounts for approval; Philip elected to stand down as Treasurer this year and it is with grateful thanks for all his hard work for CLB that we wish him well for the future.

The officers who were elected/re-elected this year are Jean Levy Chair, Leslie Marks Vice Chair and we welcome Ray Ayivor as Treasurer. John Bruce was elected to the board and Maureen Falloon and Pat Wade were re-elected.  I very much look forward to working with our new Trustee Board during 2008/09

A video of Sarah Benioff’s presentation ‘Community Participation’ along with the speaker support slides can be viewed at on the website.  There is also a collection of photographs taken at the event on our CLB photo diary.  Click here to view the photos.

Before closing the meeting we had a lively Q&A session with Sarah and I am pleased to confirm her continuing support to Community Links and indeed to the Third Sector in Bromley.
