Santander Social Enterprise Development Awards

Funding is available to help growing social enterprises in the Greater London region to increase the impact of their work to improve social inclusion, support disadvantaged people or create a greener environment. The awards will support community enterprises looking to grow and develop their business in order to improve their local community through critical social outcomes. Funding is available under the following themes:

Comic Relief Local Communities Programme

Bromley Mytime – Expressions of interest

Mytime Active is seeking expressions of interest from organisations with suitable experience to manage and operate the One O’clock Club premises, a facility on the edge of Crystal Palace Park. This is an exciting opportunity for an organisation to be the sole user of this purpose-built facility.

The successful organisation will sub lease the facility from Mytime Active and will offer high quality provision for children under the age of 5 years. The facility is currently operating as the One o’clock Club and provides drop in pay and play sessions for parents / carers with children under 5 years.

However, there is scope to gain Ofsted registration and to diversify and enhance the offer, for example, to provide a sessional pre-school. Other options / alternative uses will be considered.

Organisations will be invited to make a detailed tender submission between February and April 2012 for a 12-year agreement. The contract will be awarded in April 2012 and service commencement could be as early as June 2012, but will be no later than September 2012.

London Councils Grants Consultation 2013/15

London Councils launched a public consultation exercise on 21 December 2011 about its future grants programme and its review of the potential equalities effects on the protected groups as part of its duties under the Equality Act 2010. This consultation will assist London Councils in reaching the following decisions in the future:

Bike Club Grants - £2k grants

£2k seed grants are available towards the setting up of Bike Clubs for young people (10 - 20 years old/10 - 25 if all abilities including those with mental health problems and learning difficulties)

Potential Bike Clubs must demonstrate sustainability, inclusiveness and robust methods of evaluation.

Grants can be used for capital costs such as purchasing equipment, training to up-skill the group to be self-sustaining and buying in expertise.

Funding for Netball in London - £4K 

This brand new funding pot provides an opportunity for clubs, schools, organisations, local authorities and individuals to access funding to provide new netball opportunities in London. The funding covers a range of areas and activities that support England Netball’s strategic objectives.

Funding cannot be made retrospectively so must be for project, programmes, courses and activities that have not yet been delivered or attended. Projects must be sustainable and meet the England Netball criteria listed in the guidance notes. Application deadlines will be 5pm on the following dates:

BIG launches funding for sustainable communities

BIG Lottery Fund has announced a new funding programme: Communities Living Sustainably. The scheme will fund partnerships that bring together the public, private, voluntary and community sectors to build up to 10 sustainable and resilient communities to help deal with the potential impact of climate change.

BIG have up to £10m to fund 10 communities in England. There will be a development phase where BIG will provide £10K to develop delivery plans before making a final decision on the 10 successful communities. BIG are particularly interested in supporting the most vulnerable groups and communities who are more likely to be affected by climate change.

£30 million announced for community green schemes and public sector energy efficiency

The Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) have launched the Local Energy Assessment Fund, a new £10 million fund to support community action on energy efficiency and renewable energy. It aims to help communities to equip themselves to deliver meaningful projects through mechanisms such as the Green Deal, Feed in Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive.

This is very short notice but there is help available (see below). Funded work must be completed by 31st March 2012. It is expected that average grant values will be around £50,000. The maximum grant available under LEAF will be £130,000. The funding will be issued in two phases, phase one has already closed but phase 2 applications must be submitted online by 12 noon on 20th Jan 2012 – successful applicants will be notified by 31st Jan 2012.

All work funded under LEAF must be completed by 31st March 2012. Communities applying will need to show that they can complete the proposed project within this three-month period.

Those applying can include up to £1,000 in the project budget to pay for support or advice from third parties in helping to develop funding applications to LEAF. (This will only be paid, if the proposal is successful). 

The fund will support communities in working to understand and reduce the amount of energy that is used in homes and other buildings and where local action can help deliver savings of energy, carbon dioxide emissions and money. This work can include

If much of this work has been done already, then there is the potential to use the fund to develop further work on renewable energy systems.

Projects supported by the scheme will need to have clear community involvement/lead, lead to greater understanding of the opportunities for energy efficiency and renewable energy across the host community, show how they will lead to an increase in installations of energy efficiency and renewable energy measures and show how they will benefit their community in the long term.

Small Charity Fundraising Conference in partnership with the Institute of Fundraising

Thanks to a grant from the OCS, the Institute of Fundraising and the Small Charities Coalition have teamed up to bring you a dedicated fundraising conference for small charities with an income of less than £200,000.

The ‘Fundraising in a Small Charity’ conference is being held in London on Friday 30 March 2012 and will cost only £20 per delegate.
