[ORGANISATION NAME] is under an obligation to consider any such request seriously. In line with the organisations commitment to equal opportunities, [ORGANISATION NAME] has decided that the right to request flexible working should be extended to all members of staff and not just parents. [a suggestion]. The right to request a flexible working arrangement is available once an employee has 26 weeks service with [ORGANISATION NAME]. Requests will not be automatically granted. Requests will not be approved if [ORGANISATION NAME] cant operate properly with the working pattern the employee proposes. Examples of flexible working might include: Term-time only working Decreasing weekly hours of work Compressed working week Job sharing A later start or finishing time Working from home If the employee wishes to request a change to his/her working arrangements, he/she should follow the procedure set out below. The employee should have an informal discussion with his/her line manager regarding the proposed change. The employee should then make a formal written request to the Director (in the case of the Director the request will be made to the Chair of the Trustees). The employee should explain why he/she is asking for this change and should explain how he/she thinks the arrangement could work. Suitable forms for making a request can be found on the DTI website at www.dti.gov.uk/er/workingparents.htm [ORGANISATION NAME] will give serious consideration to the request and the Director will hold a meeting with the employee to discuss his/her request in more detail. Should the request be from the Director, then the Chair of the Trustees will meet with the Director. The meeting will take place as soon as is reasonably practicable but not later than 28 days after the receipt of the request. [ORGANISATION NAME] will provide the employee with a formal, written response to his/her request within 14 days of the meeting. If the application is refused, the reasons for that refusal will be given. The employee will be told of his/her right of appeal. The consideration of his/her request will take into account the needs of [ORGANISATION NAME] and the cost to the organisation of making any alternative arrangements. If the employee wishes to appeal, the appeal should be addressed to the Chair of the Trustees within 14 days of the refusal being notified to the employee. Two Trustees of [ORGANISATION NAME] who have not been involved in making the original decision will hear the appeal. [ORGANISATION NAME] will make every effort to respond to any request with the minimum of delay. However, employees are urged to make requests at the earliest opportunity so that all the practical consequences of any change can be fully considered.
