Bromley Voluntary and Community Sector COVID-19 Emergency Fund Impact Report (pdf, Oct 2021)
In 2020, the Direct Line Group approached Bromley Council with a generous offer to provide emergency funding for voluntary and community groups and organisations in the borough who were facing unprecedented challenges as the COVID -19 pandemic grew.
This report highlights the fantastic work undertaken by local charities during the pandemic.
Projects
Mencap Round the World Challenge
In January 2021, we led a bid alongside Bromley Mencap, MyTime Active and Palace for Life Foundation to apply for funding from Royal Mencap to take part in the Round the World Challenge. The Round the World Challenge supports people with a learning disability to get outside and get active in a way that is flexible, fun, and empowering.
The Tenant Toolkit, developed in 2018, was designed to support both Bromley residents entering the Private Rented Sector and the private landlords who rent out property in the Borough.
The toolkit was developed in consultation with key voluntary support agencies and individual tenants in the Borough, who acknowledged that both tenants and landlords need local support to develop sustainable and long term tenancies.
Health and Wellbeing Transformation Project
We successfully applied to the City Bridge Foundation (formerly City Bridge Trust) in October 2019 for funding for its Health and Wellbeing Transformation project.

Getting Active at Bromley FC Community Sports Trust
We worked with Bromley FC Community Sports Trust to deliver their ‘Getting Active; sports development programme', which was created to provide young people with regular sports opportunities, through offering free footballing sessions for 8 to 13 year olds.
Exercises classes for older people at Mytime Active
Thanks to the grant we were awarded by London Sport under the Tackling Inequalities Fund, in 2022, we worked with Mytime Active to deliver a programme of exercise for older people with mobility problems and other long term conditions.
London Youth Cold Spots grant funding
Early in 2024, we partnered with London Youth and Bromley Children & Families Voluntary Sector Forum to offer small grants of up to £5,000 to local groups that addressed the issue of funding and support for cold spots in outer London boroughs.
In October 2023, we secured local funding to manage and deliver an activity challenge project to engage with the charity and voluntary sector in Bromley to encourage them to become more active. Following the success of the first walking challenge, the 6-week 'Bromley Walk England's Cities Challenge', we launched a second and longer walking challenge in January 2024 - a virtual walk across Europe.
